Ashbourne has been a work I progress for about the last 3 years. It started as just something to do on weekends for members Orlando (guitar/vocals) and Kevin (guitar/vocals) but then developed into a true passion. The arrival of their first drummer Matt Sommerer (drummer 1) into the band marked a turning point in their blooming musical career, but unfortunately under the name, Cobalt the music dried up and they went their separate ways for 6 months. After that, short period of time Kevin and Orlando decided it was time for another shot and upon gaining the knowledge that a drummer just moved in down the street they figured it was worth the chance. Kevin wrote a note and stuck it in the mailbox of said drummers house, not expecting much, they waited, and not more than 25 minutes later, here comes Chris Waggoner(drummer 2) biking down the street in the direction of Kevin’s house. The trio hit it off immediately and they began preparing for what they believed would be something great. They quickly became aware of a battle of the bands that was upcoming and realized that three just wouldn’t do. So Chris suggested that they bring in his friend Josh Story (guitarist 3) which seemingly was a great idea. Nevertheless, that’s when things went sour, first the name of the band was up in the air, half thought it was called Interphase, the other half thought Green Light Theory. Also the music styles had gotten tangles. Chris was more into the chili peppers funk spectrum, whereas Kevin and Orlando wanted more of a heavy rock feel, Josh on the other hand was up for whatever was thrown at him, but the problem there was that…..Kevin and Orlando, being (at the time) 6 year veterans of their instruments, didn’t see Josh as talented enough. Again, this caused a problem, to lose Josh would be to lose Chris, and they couldn’t have that. So the BOTB approached and just 4 days before show time, Hurricane Wilma struck and tore apart all their plans. The land where the battle was to be held was turned into a landfill for debris and with there not being any power for the next 14 days to come, there was no date planned at all. SO the bands first show was cancelled due to weather. Over the 14 days of no power Kevin and Orlando finally got the courage to tell Josh that it was time for him to go, but it didn’t go as planned and, as reported, Josh didn’t take it so well.
Again, as suspected, about 2 weeks later lines became thin and the band that was Interphase/Green Light Theory was no more. The summer passed and Kevin and Orlando continued to practice, they joined another band for a short period called No Such Cure, but they soon realized this was not where they wanted to be. Kevin decided that maybe it was he that needed a break and he chose to play drums briefly for a metal band called Apostrophe. Kevin’s no bad drummer, he’s been playing drums just as long as guitar so why not, but the band decoded they would rather have someone that they knew better involved so they told Kevin he was out. And then finally after the 3 year of work, there came a fateful day, about 2 months into the school year of 2006-2007, one year after the battle of the bands fiasco, Kevin was on Myspace doing nothing but minding his own business and he came across an ad, it was placed by a girl named Kym St.Pierre and she needed a band. Finally, things were falling into place; they had the bassist that they needed. Orlando and Kevin met Kym and realized that she NEEDED to be in, and so she was, and still is. Still sadly, Ashbourne as they’re now called still has no drummer, and strangely, Drummers are very difficult to find. So right now, Kevin plays drums, not that he wants to, it’s just the way it has to be for now. And so, on the vigorous hunt for a drummer, the lineup has become Kevin Nolan: Guitar/drums/vocals, Orlando Carrillo: guitar/vocals, Kym St. Pierre: Bass/vocals. |
