"George G. Gordon's pop music and bio"
George is located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire where he has returned to his home to write, record and meditate. George grew up in Lincoln and started playing guitar at the age of 9 when his older brother showed him a simple melody and was then blown away when George was soon outplaying him. George proceeded to teach himself and a few select friends how to play by copying songs of Hendix, Cream, The Yardbirds and others. Many bands came and went throughout George's school years. After school was out "Big Roll Band" was formed and played throughout the area for many years. After moving to Portland "Night Shift" and "Bebe and the B Sides" were just a couple of the local acts to benefit from George's tastefull guitar work. Former bandmate TVD says of George on the website httpwww.vondoom.comgene.htm "Everyone he played in front of loved him, Todd Rundgren, Rick Derringer, Rick Nielsen no slouches themselves... He loved to play pop like The Ventures, but I saw him play blistering Johnny Winter solos note-for-note. His ear was incredible. He could pick out nuances in recordings that escaped everyone else. I remember a show we played in Woodstock, NY, where we brought along a young guy from Portland as a roadie. In the audience were Todd Rundgren, most of Cheap Trick - Rick Nielsen, Bun E. Carlos and Robin Zander, a songwriter named Jules Shear, etc. George broke a string. George almost never broke strings, so I don't think he had a back-up guitar, then. Our roadie quickly restrung the guitar, tuned it and handed it back to George. George looked at Rooster and we burst into the next song. Whoa! George hit the first chord and made an incredibly sour face. The new string had been tuned an octave low! We just plowed ahead, and George played his parts while tuning the string! It was truly awe inspiring. The guitar was completely in tune by the end, and all the guitar players in the audience were on their feet cheering! Rick Nielsen was wearing a pin of his signature 5 neck guitar, and after the show he took it off and pinned it on George, saying that it was one of the most amazing performances he'd ever seen. After returning to NH in the 80's "Sly Dog" was formed. After that he played in "Working Class" for the remainder of thier time on the road. Currently George is the guitar player in the classic rock band "Geezer".
George recently suffered a stroke but is recovering slowly at home. All hopes are for a complete recovery so we can hear George do his thing again.
