Music is not just music, but an escape for Philly rapper, Dymez. Growing up in southwest Philadelphia he got into a lot of trouble in school and had problems at home, it was an escape from the troubles and everyday life. Besides music he enjoys drawing, cars and the love of creating. At the age of 9 he found himself interested in rapping, after hearing Tribe Called Quest song “Scenario.” Desmond can recall listening to that song and getting inspired to start a music career for himself. He says his biggest influences are Big L and Fabolous. As time went by he started to get tired of rapping over other peoples beats , so that’s when he made the decision to make his own. By the age of 17 he was establishing a name for himself , doing freestyle battles, appearing on DVDs like 2raw for the streets. Des went by the name Dymez aka Yungstunna., the names bestow the different sides of him. Yungstunna is the fun side, that talks bout the cars and money aspect of society, where dymez is the side of desmond that’s more serious. This side articulates real life experiences that he has lived and others go through. Dymez describes his music as unique and depth in details. Things were going the way he wanted, until tragedy struck him. Dymez best friend, who was a major supporter in his music died in a car accident. Afterwards he felt like he just couldn’t go on with his music without his biggest advocator in his corner. Music was then put on the backburner, that was until Dymez was 20 and had his first daughter. The birth of his child gave him the strength to want to make music again. His ultimate goals now are, to be known world wide when he dies and to give and show his daughter a life with infinite possibilities.
